Xuan Sports Family

We know it's been a while since we last posted on our blog here.

SInce this is 1 October, the 'traditional' Children's Day, we thought it would be appropriate to highlight some exemplary performances by some of our Xuan athletes in the National Wushu & Sanda Championships 2016 that happened recently in August.

Here's the list of Xuan Sports athletes with exemplary achievements in the National Wushu & Sanda Championships 2016 (in alphabetical order):

Angeline Yong - Xuan Sports

Angeline Yong

This is Angeline’s maiden appearance in the National Wushu & Sanda Championships. Even though Angeline is still within the Youth Category, she was made to be in the Women’s ‘Open’ Category for the Broadsword International Routine. Angeline faced one of the strongest opponents in the entire competition – Tan Yan Ni - Asian Games Wushu Bronze medallist.

Of course, we live in reality and there was no fairy-tale finish for Angeline but she narrowly lost the gold medal by 0.08 points to Yan Ni. We are really proud of Angeline for her good performance.

Well done, Angeline. Keep up the good work!

Chloe Neo

On first look, you wouldn’t have imagined Chloe is a veteran in her events. However, this petite and feisty little girl has beaten all older girls/women in the ‘Open’ category 42-Style Taijiquan and Taijijian events to win Gold in both events! Chloe is indeed the ‘chilli padi’ that has shown great powers as she fiercely competed in both her events against all older opponents. She is a fearless girl and her courage is indeed something for everyone to admire.

Delson Kim

One of the newest member of the Xuan Sports family, Delson had to fight many odds to be in this competition and although he has only learnt the Nanquan 3rd International Routine for 3 weeks, he bravely agreed to use that routine in the National Wushu & Sanda Championships instead of using the other Nanquan routines that he has been used to. Delson won a bronze medal in the event but we felt that this is worthy of mention as he picked the ‘path less travelled’. Keep that fighting spirit going, Delson.

Le Yin Shuen - Xuan Sports

Le Yin Shuen

Yin Shuen took part in the Free-Style Changquan ‘Open’ Category for Women. As in all other free-style Wushu events, it is difficult for any athletes to pick up the free-style category events as they require superb physical condition to perform all required movements and stunts and also, an excellent understanding of Wushu in order to do well. Yin Shuen has done well in this aspect and by the way, she has only learnt this routine for 3 weeks! Great job, Yin Shuen!

Nicholas Loh - Xuan Sports

Nicholas Loh

Affectionately known as ‘small Nicholas’ in Xuan Sports (because he is chronologically younger and physically ‘smaller’ than the older Nicholas Ngooi), Nicholas was the top scoring boy among all his opponents in all three events that he participated: 3-duan Changquan, 4-duan Sword and 4-duan Spear Children’s category. That is an extraordinary achievement that is definitely worthy of mention here. He will be the next Xuan Sports athlete to look out for in the National Primary School Wushu Championship next year.

Nicholas Ngooi - Xuan Sports

Nicholas Ngooi

Nicholas took part in the Men’s ‘Open’ Category for both his events (Free-style Changquan and Broadsword International Routine). Brave Nicholas had to perform a free-style routine for his Broadsword event as well.

The proudest moment for Xuan Sports was when Nicholas was placed as the Gold medallist in the Free-style Changquan event. He was the youngest participant in that event and he beat all his older opponents. All these weren’t achieved without hard work on Nicholas’ side. He had his fair share of scolding from his coaches and has also shed his share of sweat and blood to win this moment.

We are proud to announce that Nicholas will be representing Singapore in the upcoming World Junior Wushu Championships in Bourgas, Bulgaria. All the best, Nicholas!

Randall Lim - Xuan Sports

Randall Lim

Randall was down with severe flu in the period of the National Wushu & Sanda Championships 2016. In spite of his illness, he competed with pure grit and had to compete in the Free-style Nanquan event against all older boys/men as it was the ‘Open’ category. Randall was the silver medallist in that event, as he narrowly lost to his older opponent.

Randall has shown exemplary fighting spirit in this competition indeed. We are also proud to announce that Randall will also be competing in the World Junior Championships. This is Randall’s first time representing the nation and we are very happy for him. All the best, Randall!

Sammi Kim - Xuan Sports

Sammi Kim

Sammi was also made to compete in the Free-style Changquan ‘Open’ Category for Women in this competition. Much like Yin Shuen, Sammi didn’t have much experience in Free-style events and had to abruptly adjust to the new routine within 3 weeks. In that short period of time, Sammi was able to put up a decent fight in her event instead of backing out of it to participate in the more familiar Changquan International routine events. Well done, Sammi!

Yeap Zheng Hong

Zheng Hong is a home-grown Xuan Sports athlete and although he represented his school (Singapore Polytechnic) instead of Xuan Sports in this competition, we are proud of his achievements as he is still part of the Xuan Sports family. He won 3 Gold medals for all his ‘Open’ category events: Changquan 1st International Routine, Broadsword and Cudgel International Routines. Zheng Hong is a good example for his juniors.

Last but not least, we would like to thank Wushu Legends, theinfinitemoments.com, parents and our supporters for allowing us to use their photos on our website.
