Yin Shuen - 6th World Junior Wushu Championships 2016

It was the first day of the 6th World Junior Wushu Championships 2016 and it was also a first for two of our Xuan athletes, Le Yin Shuen and Randall Lim. These two have come a long way to finally donning our nation's colours in a major competition like this. The many hours of gruesome training and preparation for their moments on the competition ground has finally come into fruition as they pursue their dreams in the sport of Wushu.

Le Yin Shuen, a Changquan specialist, has been training with the Singapore Wushu Dragon & Lion Dance Federation since 2014. This year, she has finally been given a chance to represent the nation in this 6th World Junior Wushu Championships 2016. For Day 1, she had to compete in two events - Girls' Changquan B and Girls Jianshu (Sword) B. Yin Shuen was placed 4th in both her events and this is good results for a first showing in a major competition. It was a tough fight, especially in the Girls Changquan B event in which 26 athletes took part in total. We are proud of Yin Shuen and are looking forward to her upcoming event, the Girls Qiangshu (Spear) B, on 3 Oct 2016.

As for Randall, this veteran Xuan athlete has been training with the Singapore Wushu Dragon & Lion Dance Federation for close to three years. This chance to represent Singapore means a lot to this boy and the Xuan family is indeed happy that he is finally given the opportunity to do so. In the Boys Nandao B event, Randall came in 4th, losing narrowly to the bronze medallist from Egypt by 0.01 points. In our opinion, Randall has done very well for a first showing in a major competition. We are also proud of him and will be looking enthusiastically towards his next two events - the Boys Nanquan B and Boys Nangun B - on 2nd and 3rd October 2016 respectively.

On a side note, we are also proud of another member of the Xuan family - our beloved Coach JunMing. For this 6th World Junior Wushu Championships 2016, Coach JunMing was invited by the Singapore Wushu Dragon & Lion Dance Federation to go on board as the National Coach for the team. This is a recognition of his effort and contribution towards Wushu in the nation. We are happy and very proud to have Coach JunMing serving the nation this way.

Finally, Team Singapore has done well overall, winning a Gold Medal in the Boys Jianshu B event. We would like to congratulate Malcolm Lai for clinching the sole Gold medal for Team Singapore in the 6th World Junior Wushu Championships 2016 yesterday.
